A Brief Description about the WARP Summit

The WARP Summit is an international summit held in Seoul, South Korea on September 2014. The summit consisted of politicians, religious leaders, young adult and women leaders, and the press. The aim of the summit is to unite under the banner of peace through discussing an international law that would end all wars and creating harmony among different religions. Chairman Man Hee Lee mentioned that the religions, which should set an example by keeping peace, have been the cause for majority of conflicts in the history of mankind. Chairman Man Hee Lee started to think about peace, when he served as a soldier in the forefront during the Korean War. As he watched his comrades fall in the battlefield, he experienced in attrocities of war and understood the experience of peace. The mircale of WARP Summit 2014, in which the participants from different backround agreed to the importance of world peace, was continued by numerous World Peace Tours of HWPL in various countries. On September 2015, the WARP Summit celebrated its first anniversary as leaders were invited from all over world to discuss the practical solution towards world peace and unification of religions.

For the first time in human history...

Every day is a new day. Every minute that we spend in our life is a new minute. This is an endless cycle of time that we are all part of. Despite these changes in time we experience daily, we experience the same life style. Although we have many different experiences, we all live in the same world, which has a direct influence in the choice that we make in our lives. Because of war, our lives are influenced by it either directly or indirectly. They may not be in the nations, where wars happen, but they are still influenced by it through the news. In the 21st century, the whole global community is affected by a war or conflict. We have seen many new years, we have celebrated many new years, but we still live in the world, in which wars persist... Until we saw a small light from South Korea that grew into a greater light.

HWPL, a NGO organization registered under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Korea started a new movement which is somehow different from the peace movements that we have seen in the past. In the center of this movement is Chairman Man Hee Lee, who experienced war as a solider of the forefront of the Korean War over 60 years ago. The peace movement that HWPL started under the leadership of Chairman Man Hee Lee became a new wave that slowly became a great tide. The ingredients that he suggested were, of course, people. Although movements are initiated by people, HWPL peace movements targetted specific group of people to initate the work: the youth and the women through IPYG and IWPG. Along with the religious leaders, the politicians, and the media, the youths and the women worked to persuade the whole world, because they were the group mostly influenced by the war. the ideology that combined them was heavenly culture. This is having the mindset of heaven by having the heart to take care of the earth.

Heaven provides earth with light, water, and air. It does not kill, but it strives to help. It was the actualy the earth that polluted itself. The heaven only wished to give life to earth. Just as this, we are the cause for the sufferings and pain. This means we need an ideology that transcends the cultures and the mindset of earth and holds us responsible for the home that we live in. This is heavenly culture, which is to have the heart to take care of this earth. There are many peace workers and environmentalist, who advocate to safeguard the planet. The spirit of heavenly culture unites this into one. This is why we will finally see for the first time in history, a new idea called world peace.

Into a new year of peace...

It has been already 18 days since the new year begun. As we enter a new year, we would go through the same tradition of making new resolutions and goals that we will strive to make the year 2016 more special. Although the result may not be promising... For some reason, I think that the last month that we would spend in the year 2016 may be promising in terms of the current affairs in many nations.

Like always Chairman Man Hee Lee along with Chairwoman Nam Hee Kim has been travelling around the world in many world peace tours to share their ideas of bringing peace into the world. The organization HWPL played a critical role last year in the preparation of implementing an international law. For this reason the two chairs of HWPL and IPYG were invited to the United Nation to give a speech on peace.

It shows that HWPL is now targeting the whole world to create a different world, which is a world that differs from other. They visited the conflicting countries in the middle east to gain more support for peace. The activities that they participate is not for their own authority, but to create a different world. We are able to understand their motives through their action. Whenever the chairman meets an advocate of peace, he greets them with a bow and shakes their hand with his two hands. The humility that he shows represents his hope and passion for peace.

Since the WARP Summit in 2014 (and also before the Summit), HWPL has been the center of peace movement in fulfilling world peace that has been a long lost dream to many people. We hope that this year the new resolution that HWPL and Chairman Lee made will come true.

1st Annual Commemoration of September 18th WARP Summit Main Highlight

Do you remember?
This is the opening question of the highlight clip of the 1st Annual Commemoration of September 18th WARP Summit.
Do you remember the event last year? The things that achieved since then, when we gathered in hands and promised under the Creator to build a world of harmony.

Peace Palace
Where is the Peace Palace?
One road enters from each direction:
North, South, East, and West
Climb the stairway to heaven,
and there it is!
The sun, moon, and stars are there.
(Sun - Ps 89:36, Moon - Ps 89:37, Stars - Gn 37:9-11)
It is a heavenly town,
where the sky and earth
harmoniously mingle.
There are three stairways to heaven
in the Peace Palace
The pavilion of the world is
"Il-wol-jeong (sun-moon-pavilion)."
Two sreams of clear blue water flow
in the shape of an "S" for sky.
The sun, moon, stars
and clouds in the heavens
Weave a pictureeque tapestry
A ray of light shines
upon the Peace Palace
The pier under a tall pine tree
Awaits those on their way
Lined up in a "V" for victory.
Boats bound for heaven
gather at the dock,
Dancing in the waves.
The angels of the Peace Palace
come out to the dock.
And welcome those arriving
with their hands held high
High in the sky,
at an altitude of 38,000 fee.
The sun, moon, and stars hover above
As we fly to the Peace Palace.
The fish that are schooling
See the stairway to heaven
leading to the Peace Palace
The beautiful Peace Palace is within sight.
The moon is out
and shining serenity upon scene.
Behold the palace of peace!

WARP of 1st Commemoration

Finally, it is this week. The WARP of 1st Commemoration begins in few days. After the WARP Summit last year, HWPL has continued its effort to create harmony in the world. They have established WARP Offices and invited religious leaders of the community to participate in a discussion to compare their religion and reach to an agreement. Each peace dialogues ended with signing the peace agreement. Although it is a small act of signing a paper, its symbolism is enormous as this agreement is signed by many other religious leaders. These agreements will gather to create a larger unity in the world. The WARP of 1st Commemoration will become another giant step towards achieving the dream that we have longed for.

1st Annual Commemoration of WARP Summit - What kind of a world do you want?

It has been one year since the first WARP Summit, where we were able to see the first step towards achieving world peace. It was where we were able to confirm that there is still hope for a peaceful world.

After one year since the Summit, we now celebrate the first commemoration. It is the opportunity what kind of improvements were made after the Summit last year. For the past year, after the WARP Summit, HWPL worked with many different religions to establish WARP Offices around the world. Although wars have happened because ideological differences, most wars that we see today are based on religious differences. The song "World" by Five For Fighting asks their listeners, what kind of world do they want? The participants of WARP Summit wish for a world of peace. This is why even with differences in background they gathered in South Korea last year and also this year to find a solution to create peace in between different groups and in the world.

I am excited to see the result of the first commemoration. The progress that the HWPL has made this year will also reflect through the results that we see next year. I do not believe that peace will be achieved in one day, but it is a continuous effort that requires the dedication of many people. It is to first identity that ultimate problem that causes war and to walk in harmony with others.

What kind of world do you want? ... Let's start at the start, build a master piece. ... History starts now

The First Annual Commemoration of the WARP Summit will start in 18 September 2015 at 10:00 AM (Local Time). There will be a live broadcast of the event. If you are interested please visit -- http://goo.gl/mIt1D6

Civil War in Syria

Few days ago, there was a report about a Hungarian camerawoman, who tripped the running refugees in Hungary. The past five years in Syria were spent on the civil year. Based on the research of International Amnesty and UNHCR, out of the total population of 23 million, 12 million people of Syria have been refugees.

The Civil War in Syria arose from a protest in 15 March 2011,because of an arrest of few teenage students, who wrote "The people want the fall of the regime" using a graffiti. The tension between the protesters and the government grew worse, when the government started open fire on the protesters.

The protesters, who originally used peaceful demonstration, started to use weapons and formed a resistance group called Free Syrian Army (FSA). The 12 million refugees of Syria were forced to leave their home to take refugee in other nations such as Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt. The borderline nations, who did not have enough resources for the countless numbers of refugees closed their borders.

With the Civil War, the ISIS, who slowly increased their powers, took over the northern and eastern Syria. This increased the tension in Syria bigger. The Civil War that began with a non-violence protest resulted into a war that lost its reason. With the intervention of ISIS, the European Union and the United States are planning to resolved the problem.

What would the refugees of Syria want the most? To stop the war and to return to their war.

As we see, there are great tragedies that are happening around the world. Even though the world is seeing its greatest technology and culture in its some parts, other parts of the world are suffering from civil wars and religious conflicts that lost its meaning. It seems like it is continued just because of hatred and vengeance. Will the intervention of the superpowers solve this problem? Will physical power solve war, as it would create more deaths? I believe that a conflict can be solved starting with showing sympathy and compassion to one another. This is the first step of creating a world of peace.

As we are approaching the First Annual Commemoration of WARP Summit, it is an opportunity to re experience the importance of world peace. The works of HWPL is not about gaining power or fame, but to create a world, where conflict does not exist anymore. It is to help those who are suffering from conflicts and wars to return their home. I hope that through this WARP Summit, these international conflicts will be revisited and that the Civil War in Syria will be resolved peacefully.

HWPL, Declaration of World Peace

As emissaries of World Peace; as people who are working towards the restoration of humanity through a new and heavenly culture, we declare the following.

We call on the heads of state of every country to sign an international agreement - a commitment to bringing all wars to an end. We ask them to do this from a spirit of a deep-seated love for the people of their country.

We call on all youth to unite in an effort to stop wars and pursue the restoration of peace by agreeing not fight one another.

The only way to stop the fighting and pointless, tragic deaths, is to stop fighting. Nobody can sk fro anything greater than this, and know that your efforts - the efforts of the young people of the world today in pursuit of peace - will remain as never fading light of life for all future generations.

Further we call on every person, every man, woman, and child in the world, to pick up the mantle of peace. In whatever way you can, we ask that you work to further the cause of world peace and restoration, making it a reality in your direct environments.

Lastly, we call on the media to report responsibly and promote a message of peace to the world.

Quote: Chairwoman Nam Hee Kim

"An era of end of war and world peace, which is something the mankind desired for many years, has finally arrived. Beginning with the Declaration of World Peace made by Chairman Lee in front of the Peace Gate in South Korea, the wave of world peace has reached all over the earth to bear the fruit of peace finally today. Chairman Lee has visited various placed over the globe only for peace and I was able to witness the miracle of peace most clearly. This moment is also being shown on live to the whole world and everyone's eyes and ears are focused on this place. What is the peace that you dream of? Could we say world peace is a peace only for your religion or nation? True world of peace is filled with life, where tears, pains, and death do not exist. This is the peace that the Creator wants to give."

The question of the Chairwoman asks us our world of peace. The question brings us back to reality. We all dream of a peaceful world. However, this is only a dream that is created by our subjective nature. It rotates around us. For example, a person, who is not wealthy may think of this peaceful world as a place, where everything is free. A peace is kept between the buyer and seller. We all may have our own version of a peaceful world or an utopia as a place that fills in what we lack. But let us think from the perspective of a Creator, who built this world. The Creator created this world according to his opinion. What if the world becomes unbalanced with his first version of the world? Due to the wars and conflict around the world, the original world becomes corrupted with its nature suffering from these corruption. What would the Creator want? Above all, he would want balance in nature and the return to the original world. This is what Chairman Man Hee Lee is doing. He understood the will of the Creator, who created the world in his vision. But the world was walking towards destruction.

When I was young, I used play with legos and using multiple pieces, I created my own world. When a piece is not in right place or when something becomes broken, naturally I would want to fix it and restore it back to its original place. This applies to the Creator, who created the world. However, we have to become the ones, who fulfill his will, because we are not the same as the lego piece. We are different, because there is life inside us.

Arirang of Peace

Arirang is a traditional folk song of Korea and there are many different versions of Arirang with similar lyrics. The music played in the video clip is a mob performance at a traditional district in Seoul, Korea. The lyrics is about a separation of two lover and its lyrics is portrayed sadly through the tune and the melody of the song. At the WARP Summit, the performers showed a slightly different rendition of Arirang. In the same tune, they added a deeper lyrics to hope for a better world. It talks about a person, who searches for this world and enters the new world of peace. There are many interpretation of the word, Arirang, but I would like to say, the song in general is about rediscovering the meaning of love and peace.

Many of the participants were inspired by this performance. They commented that this truly is heaven, because it overcame all differences. One youth group leader said that he has met the advocate of peace and his dream finally came true. I was not able to find a clip to revisit my memory of the performance, but it truly brought peace and harmony in the stadium, where people with differences became one.

Quote: Chairman Man Hee Lee

Chairman Man Hee Lee's Speech in the Opening Ceremony

"The WARP Summit since the creation is an unprecedented event, where all the spirits of heaven and the people of earth gathered. For this Summit, we invited the heaven and the earth as witness and in front of the Creator, we begin the WARP Summit for the end of war and world peace. By the will of the heaven, we are the ones with mission, who meet the new era after the end of the corrupted old era. On this world, on this earth, the youths and the students were not given any chance to blossom and were sacrificed on the forefront of war. The politics and the law were not able to compensate them for their sacrifice. So, UN and the presidents and supreme justices of each nation must establish an international law."

Many nations in the world, entrust the leadership of their nation to political leaders and politicians. At the same time, we abide the law of the nation, because we believe it is just and moral. However, in terms of peace, the law and the politicians were not able to fulfill their duty completely, because we see more conflicts in the world that occur because of various reasons. The purpose of the WARP Summit was to support both political leaders and religious leaders to be able provide their people with peace. It was to provide the leaders a place, where they can discuss for building a better world.

Article: European Peace and Unity

Many wars took place in Europe. Although its number may be similar to other continents, Europe saw two wars with the largest scale in the history. The consequences of WWII gave birth to The United Nation and the end of Cold War gave birth, even though there may be other economical reason for its creation, to European Union was founded. Yes, it is obvious that there are many other reasons for the formation of the EU (whereas at the same time it saw its negative effect recently in Greece), but it brought peace and unity among many European nations, in which differed in culture and language. It brought the nations, whose characters widely varied, together under one banner.

The article published by Vision of Humanity discusses the formation of the European Union. One of the founder, Robert Schuman, said that the world peace cannot be kept unless we make efforts. EU was one of the major steps to prevent further wars from happening in the continent. Other nations from different continents participated in the war, but the central stage of both World Wars was in Europe. However, this is limited to only countries in the EU. The central stage is the world. It is now the time to stop all conflict in the world. HWPL right now is targeting the whole world, so that it will come together under one banner. This banner transcends both nation and religion.

The article also mentions that we need to have a larger perspective on this issue of peace. Also, as generations pass, the horror of war is only learned as history or just meaningless facts and information. However, the new and young generations must be reminded of the importance of peace and reaching to an agreement through peace, rather than physical force. This is to avoid the mistakes that were made by the older generation. We must learn to resolve a problem peacefully and also unite our thoughts together and overcome the difference.

I do not think difference is wrong or evil. Everyone is different in their own ways. However, these differences must not result in a conflict. Just like what happened in the WARP Summit, we must learn to talk to each other and discuss and respect each other's opinion to reach to an agreement.

Article: How many countries are free from conflict?

An article in the Independent called "World Peace? These are the only 11 countries in the world that are actually free from conflict" was published last Thursday. If the numbers continues to show no change, world peace may become a hopeless dream.

Countless numbers of conflicts are happening in over 70% of the world. This requires a turnover. We need to start changing the numbers so that less numbers of conflict will occur in the world. If no countries are free from conflict, then the world will never see the light. The article pointed out that the world became less peaceful every year since 2007. This year we celebrate the 60th year anniversary of the end of WWII. I am not sure how much the world has changed ever since? Did we learn from our mistakes in WWII? Ironically the world shifted into a different type of war called the Cold War. right after WWII. Compared to 60 years ago, how much did we change in terms on conflict? Although the world is not involved in a global conflict or war, we still see multiple conflicts in the world.

I hope that through the HWPL activities and peace movement, the world will see more light as conflicts are resolved. I hope that more people in the world would see the works of Chairman Man Hee Lee and other peace advocates on how much they sacrifice to create a better world.

WARP Summit: Press Conference

"I would like to share with you about the peace activities I have been doing.
I was only a youth during World War II.
And I lived through 12 different administration of the president of Korea.
Over the years, I have seen and heard many things.
The reason for hosting the WARP Summit is as I told you.
We have to reenact an international law and must sign on the international law.
I do not wish for other things. If peace can be fulfilled, I firmly believe that those, who do the work of peace will be remembered as peace advocates in history and our future generation can enjoy the peace that we achieved."
-Chairman Man Hee Lee

In these few simple sentences, we are able to see the devotion that one man made because of his life experience that would change the world. Imagine, one day you had an experience. This experience altered the course of your life in terms of decision and characteristic. This resulted something enormous that would be beyond your imagination at that moment of experience. Chairman Man Hee Lee was a regular soldier in the front line of the Korean War. He participated in many battles, experienced near death, and saw many of his fellow soldiers, who died protecting their country from those, whom they once referred as brothers. It is truly sad that a nation would be the scapegoat of an ideological turmoil. This experience probably altered Chairman Lee's personality. This resulted the WARP Summit, ironically in the same nation, where that war took place. His love for humanity gave him the motivation to travel and talk about peace. In his old age, he could enjoying to spend his life doing something else, however, he chose to work for peace. This is something extraordinary. He was an ordinary man, when he had his experience, but the thoughts and the beliefs that he chose to follow made him into an extraordinary man. I think the world started to recognize that also, as they are calling the WARP Summit hosted by HWPL and the Chairman, the work of the divine creator.

World Alliance of Religions Peace Summit

WARP Summit was hosted on September 16th last year with 1000 religious leaders from over 100 nations. In addition to these leaders, 300 IWPG members from 60 nations and 500 youth leaders from 134 nations participated in the event. I personally think that this Summit would be considered as the most influential event of this century later by historians. It is hard to see the effect in our individual daily lives, but the first step was taken towards peace. And slowly the world is going through a change in various places, as the participants are establishing HWPL WARP Offices around the world to discuss about peace and host religious dialogues.

One Lutheran Bishop commented "In the Scripture, it is said that everything about peace will be fulfilled by the inspiration of God. This means that it was by the inspiration of God that Chairman Lee, who hosted this event, was able to prepare for this Summit. The religious unification is the most beautiful evidence."

There have been religious dialogues in the past, but there was none with the participation of leaders from different areas. Although the meetings between religious leaders are important, it is not completely practical to only have religious leaders to meet. It requires numerous people, such as politicians, supreme justices, leaders of youth and women. This makes it more practical as each people are able to work in their area to make one idea called "peace" possible.

Chairman Man Hee Lee and Archbishop Antonio Lesdema

Finding a good friend in our lives is difficult. But, whenever one makes a true friend, their friendship lasts forever. On the road of achieving peace, Chairman Man Hee Lee also created great friendship with those who have like-minded as him. One notable friendship is the one with Archbishop Antonio Lesdema.

They met when Chairman Man Hee Lee visited Philippines for the peace movement. Although I do not know the complete story how they met, I am still fascinated by the action of the Archbishop to meet the Chairman. And together, they were able to start the first step to achieve a miracle in Mindanao. It is true, when light meet light, there is victory. We need more like-minded people, who are willing to devote their lives for peace. This is not only for their generation, but also for the future generation. We cannot procrastinate our efforts to achieve peace and leave it to our next generation. It must be our generation, who are capable of communication than any other generations in the past, to achieve world peace. And people like Chairman Man Hee Lee and Archbishop Antonio Lesema are already influencing their community and also the world.

Their friendship was rejoined when the Archbishop visited South Korea to participate in the WARP Summit. I think I saw his interview about the WARP Summit, and his reactions were positive. WARP Summit created a network of peace advocates, who are willing to dedicate themselves to achieve peace. Something more fascinating is that all these people came from a difference background. This ranges from social status, religion, ethnicity, and occupation. They all came to South Korea for one purpose: to achieve world peace.

The friendship of the Chairman and the Archbishop is also amazing. It shows how the support for peace is able to transcend all other differences. The two leaders definitely come from a different background, but their love peace is what brought them to join in a continuous friendship. A friendship under peace.

The Vision of HWPL and IPYG

Why does the world need peace? Has there been any compensation given for their lost lives? This questions are not normally asked by the people, who are busy living their daily lives. This is only a concern for the few, who actually lost their loved ones in war. The people around them may sympathize with them, but it does not lead them to empathy. I also did not truly understand the loss of the loved ones, because none of my families were affected by the war. I only knew the suffering of those who lost their loved ones, but I never felt their pain with them, until I came across HWPL and Chairman Man Hee Lee. His messages made me realize the importance of peace and end of the war. The dedication that Mr. Man Hee Lee showed during the WARP Summit and the World Tours gave me an absolute realization that he does not have the solution and the key to world peace, because his messages did not only influence me to look at the world from a different perspective, but other youths and leaders as well. Those, who were busy fulfilling their personal dreams and goals for their nations, started to look at one single goal: world peace. This devotion that everyone showed at the WARP Summit and the Peace Walk will be the leading cause towards world peace. The small spark of light that started in the Korean Peninsula now spreads across the world to create a greater light.

Essay: War and Peace

War. What is it good for? The song sung by Edwin Starr poses a question to its listeners. Each nation spend countless financial resources for the preparation of a possible war. Although some countries need military power, in order to protect themselves from neighboring nation, it is somewhat amazing to see how much funds we spend on to harm someone.

The investment that we make in the security of our nation is obviously not wrong, but it seems that it would be better to find a better solution. The funds that we use to develop the military could be used for something else, such as social welfare and for technical innovation that would improve our daily lifestyle. It does not mean I do not appreciate our veterans or current soldiers, who sacrifice their lives for the welfare of our nation. However, I think we could find a different solution that would help everyone to enjoy a safe and secure life.

HWPL proposes world peace and end of war. Since the WARP Summit, many people, especially in the religious world, have been making efforts to bring peace and unity in their own communities. And like many philosophers and great thinkers mentioned in their individual writings, peace must be achieved within ourselves. We need to want peace in our heart. Then, a change will happen naturally as we work to find a solution together. Our level of conscience needs to increase in terms of our treatment to our neighbors. This all returns back to the basic teaching of love.

The world is divided into so many different pieces. This does not mean the geographical separation of continents. Luckily there is a limit to how many continents we are divided into. However, we find a way to communicate and to travel to the different continents. Our separation does not stop us from reaching to different parts of the world. However, it seems harder to reach out to one another in terms of spiritual or ideological separation. There have been efforts to achieve ecumenical beliefs among the Christian denomination. However, still in addition to countless denominations of Christianity, from which started from only one man, many other religions exist in the world that claims to believe in the Creator.

We are divided into many nations with ideological differences and inside the individual nation, we are divided in many different ways in terms of values and beliefs on what should be truth. War is not specifically limited to an act to kill or harm someone physically. However, what is it good for? It only brings suffering and division in this small planet (compared to the whole universe) that we call home. Peace is when we start walking in the same direction under one guidance. This guidance comes from heaven. We all claim to have our own answers to truth, however, there is one heaven and one Creator. Thus, there is one answer. Our vision to discover this answer must be the banner that unites us together. We are common in this way, and nothing else matters. Our ego and motivation to seek the answer must not harm someone, who disagrees with us.

We are all walking in the same direction, only in different way. This differences does not matter, because we are eventually all walking in the same direction. The miracle in the WARP Summit 2014 was truly amazing, because even though it was a small number of people compared to the global population, people with different belief and answers agreed to achieve peace together under the Creator. And the spirit of the WARP Summit and the vision of HWPL is being carried out today through the establishment of WARP Offices in different countries of the world.

We invest in arms and weapons in fear of a war. However, if this fear disappears through the peace, imagine how much impact it could make in our individual lives. I hope for that day to come to us soon. The vision of Mr. Man Hee Lee inspired my friends and I to work for peace. We can all become a peace advocate in our community.

~Peace
